I HEART my parents!

It's the ultimate BEST having my parents visit me! We had such a fun time @ the horse races and in Manhattan Beach, where they were staying at Shade Hotel. On Friday & Sunday in MB, we hung out on the beach, shopped (got some fantastic jeans), ate a lot (el sombrero, sashi & the kettle), pounded the pavement, got presents for Dillan, my Mom watched me get a hair cut, we drank mint tea & lemonade in a busy courtyard, grocery shopped at Trader Joes, discussed hair straightening - but mostly we just enjoyed hanging out! We had a teary goodbye (as usual) and a few hours later I booked a ticket to Tulsa for Thanksgiving - YAY! I miss them sooooooo!!!

BEST DAY EVER!

Sure you got your braces off, won a gold metal in the Olympics, proposed to the love of your life, birthed a child, were accepted to Dartmouth...but until you have my SWEET POTATOES, you can't officially say you have had the BEST DAY EVER! To help you along on the path to enlightenment, I am finally revealing the secret recipe....

1 pound can of Trappey's yams (in heavy syrup)
1 stick butter
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 tbsp flour
1 small can of evaporated milk
1 tsp lemon extract
1 tsp vanilla extract

Cover & simmer yams in syrup for 1 hour, drain. Whip with butter until fluffy, add remaining ingredients (again whip till fluffy). Put in greased 1 quart casserole dish & bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour . Add brown sugar & 1/2 cup pecans to top in the last few minutes of baking

unbeaten favorite, Zenyatta, was the first female horse to ever compete in the Breeders' Cup! We had to support Girl Power!
Tim had a gut feeling that the horse, Furthest Land, in the 7th race was a winner and he was right! Here is is showing off his BIG wining ticket!

Design Project

I'm designing a playroom and kid's bath for a client! The only problem is I don't know anything about kids and I'm not sure what they enjoy in their playrooms. Last night I decided to turn to my Domino Mag archives for inspiration, but ended up just reading mags for 2 hours! Better luck today!

My sun tan hue control tops were exposed, my brooch was in place on top of my gaudy scarf, my gap kids turtleneck was brand new, my dark lipstick was smudged and my thrift store hot pants were freshly spray painted black (spray painting your clothes makes them hard and crusty) - I was ready to step out as Edie Bouvier Beale for John's Halloween party in Los Feliz! Tim was under the weather and had to stay home with his Lars and the real girl costume - bummer.

Only a handful of people recognized me as Little Edie, to the others I was a gypsy or a Muslim in hot pants!

paige, tabatha, ali and I met up at at a boutique on Melrose to check out a new line of cashmere sweaters from the UK (pretty aggressive stuff). Despite the 3 power outages & bad canape service, a delightful time was had by all! Thanks for the invite!

Taco Tuesday had the wind blown out of it's sails!

Last night, instead of being attacked by 70 mph wind gusts, I should have been with Lauren celebrating her birthday in Mexican fiesta style ! As I was heading to meet the girls, I started getting calls that all the power was out in Manhattan Beach (including our taco tuesday destination), trees had fallen on cars, the streets were like parking lots because the traffic lights were out, dogs were barking, babies were crying and power lines were snapping left and right!- ugh. I made a valiant attempt to meet Lauren & Jen at the only restaurant that still had power BUT I just sat in bumper to bumper traffic instead! xoxo Happy Birthday LAUREN, I will make it up to you!!! I am laying in my bed, under my faux chalkboard headboard, watching curb your enthusiasm with Walter the dog (he's being neutered tomorrow) & I'm blogging! Bed blogging! I just installed the Blog Press application on my phone (thank you Melissa) - now I can blog from anywhere & everywhere !! Oh the fun to be had!!!! This weekend was mucho dullsville yet relaxing. I'm excited for Lauren's taco tuesday bday dinner, Johns Halloween party (what to be??), seeing Walter with a cone on his head, watching Mad Men next, pumpkin carving (Tim gutted them tonight & I roasted pumpkin seeds, but there's too much good tv to actually carve) and my new lip gloss! xoxo

FLASHBACK to TWO years ago - we were younger and we were WILD!

Running on no sleep, Mia and I hit Cartier for stylist Rachel Zoe's Book Party. We admired diamonds, knocked the DJ's skills, ate olives on the roof, wondered where all the people were and wished we were across the street at the Chanel party. The stuffiness of the Cartier group forced us to S Bar in Hollywood. This party was for french shoe designer Christian Louboutin, whose red sole shoes are a must-have on the red carpet!

FUNNY SIDE STORY: On our drive I noticed I had 16 missed calls from my mom. Fearing the worst, I called her, She was crying, very upset and on the other line with Mia's dad, Barry, trying to get Mia's cell number! She was certain I had been kidnapped! I guess I accidentally called her from my purse on the way to Cartier. She heard Mia and I talking for a bit then the "ding ding" of car doors opening, then a commotion and men. She tried to call me back and insists a man (valet?) picked up the phone and yelled something like "Blaaaaaa!!" loudly and in a mean way. She proceeded to call me over and over (as well as all my friends to assist in the developing abduction case she was forming in her mind). Mia and I couldn't stop laughing while she was crying on the phone...sorry mom, we are alive and well!

Meanwhile, over at S Bar's chic soiree, the scene was young, crowded, hipper than Cartier, and much more our speed. The interior was fantastic - upside down vintage lamps hanging from the ceiling, candelabras everywhere, interesting scenic wall coverings & food from Katsuya! As Mia interviewed the Olsens, a gal from Style.com interviewed and took pictures of me! Who was I wearing?(my own creation) What are my fashionable plans for the rest of the week? (beats me?)What did I do for a living?...I keep looking for myself on Style.com in the "Street Scene" section. Cool kids like Ashley Olsen, Rachel Bilson, Hayden Panettiere and Kristen Bell nibbled on sushi while showing off their new shoes. All in all, it was a super fun night and we made a pit stop for Tylenol PM on the way home - hopefully I can finally catch up on some sleep!

Walter took a trip to the groomer and looks like a REAL Scottish Terrier with poofy eyebrows, a beard & a skirt!

what is going on??

Over the weekend I saw Where the Wild Things Are (beautiful movie) and as a result, I want to be Max for Halloween. My cousin, Morgan, asked me to be a bridesmaid in her March 6th wedding!! Tim and I had a fancy 1 year & 3 month anniversary dinner on Saturday night at Susan Feniger's STREET (small plates gourmet version of street food from around the world) - we loved the food!
Jessica, Jen, Johonna and I spend most of our days emailing clever ideas for Mia's upcoming baby shower (although I am a horrible friend since I will be in DC for the shower - I will make it up to you, Mia). Grey Gardens has got me calling my mom, "Mother Darling" - creepy! I have one of these antlers, but now I want the one on the right because of its ornate backplate!!!Walter is at the groomer right now getting his first traditional Scottish Terrier hairdo! My parents will be here in just over 2 weeks for the Breeder's Cup World Championships @ Santa Anita Park (horse racing)! I wish I could wrap presents for a living!, I cut my hand real bad doing the dishes on Saturday during a cleaning spree - whoa is me. Tim whipped up this lasagna last night (while I watched Gossip Girl with Walter) and I'm SO EXCITED to try it tonight! yum.

Sara's birthday is Wednesday and she's being induced next Tuesday (10/13)! I am making Lauren's rehearsal bouquet! I hope the Vikings win tonight! I'm going to Washington, D.C. with Tim in November for the first time! I need a belt to wear with my bridesmaid dress on Friday - help! This is a 3 day week for me! Lauren and I are lunching together at lemonade on Wednesday! I am sleepy! Walter's replacement union jack collar just arrived! Gossip Girl tonight! Hi Mom! Lindsay's fundraiser was a huge success! I'm wearing a gray cardigan today! I got a flat tire a few days ago! I had a fabulous sushi dinner Saturday night! I wish Tim could be my date to the rehearsal dinner! Paige's sister is getting married on Saturday in SF! Dillan's going to be a bumble bee for Halloween! It's fall! Mia is 7 months pregnant and has super cute crib bedding!

In ONE WEEK Lauren will be MRS. HARVEY!!!

The countdown is on - my bridesmaid dress is having last minute alterations, plum shoes have been purchased, my secret project on a stick is in motion, fake eyelashes have been requested, the girls are set for a Thursday night slumber party, days have been taken off, manicures have been booked, Ken Paves is ready, speeches are being perfected, rehearsal dinner invitations have been studied, gifts will be wrapped and my excitement is building!!!!! I can't wait to stand up for my friends as they take their vows to become man and wife!

The Killers @ Hollywood Bowl (this is my 700th post!!)

Jen and Thatcher invited me and Wienke to see The Killers with them last night! It was so much fun! We tried to valet, we tapped our feet, laughed a lot, screamed, clapped, hugged, sang along to the few songs we knew, danced like crazy, made friends with our neighbors, drank beer (Lauren - I tried it for you), made our way to our seats twice - all by ourselves and sat in the parking lot hoping to leave for an hour and a half. Thank you soooo much for the fun night on the town!
